A major multinational company, operating in the oil and gas sector, requested a Detailed Risk Assessment for its Italian crude oil extraction, separation, stabilisation and LPG production and storage plants, the objective of which was to assess the impacts on people and assets.
The activity required multiple steps:
- characterisation of source terms (hole size, release stages, etc.);
- the development and evolution of the effects of releases (fires, explosions, flammable and toxic releases);
- an estimate of the number of people affected by the accident scenarios (expected injuries and deaths of both workers and civilians around the installations);
- estimation of economic loss on assets subject to radiation or explosion.
