The article is dedicated to “Matera, the European Capital of Culture 2019: integrating art and safety in the management of major events” and summarizes, in this first part, the interventions of the November 2018 conference (see news).

Matera is the capital of culture for the year 2019; considering the numerous events to be held in the Lucanian city, on November 20 last year, at the Palazzo Lanfranchi in Matera, a conference was held entitled “Public events and safety: integrating art, culture and regulatory constraints”. The event was organized in collaboration with the Permanent Provincial Observatory on Safety in Workplaces and Occupational Diseases set up at the Prefecture of Matera and saw the participation of experts in the field of overcrowding management in the context of major events beyond that the public security authorities and the “Basilicata Matera 2019” Foundation, organizer of the event.
