The aim of the activity was the development of fire simulations for fire resistance evaluations to be carried out with a performance approach, as required by Ministerial Decree 18/10/2019 for the ‘S.2 Fire Resistance’ strategy, for two neighbouring areas of a factory.
The calculation code used for the fluid-dynamic simulations is FDS, produced by NIST, while SAFIR was used for the structural analyses.
The results of the calculations performed with FDS are used as input data for SAFIR in order to determine the thermal stress to which the various structural elements are exposed.
