The aim of the activity was to verify the behaviour of the occupants during emergency evacuation induced by fire inside a listed historic multipurpose building. The analysis was also extended to adjacent compartments open to the public by assuming the maximum foreseeable occupancy in all building units. The simulations made it possible to highlight a number of critical areas along the evacuation and escape routes and at the same time to take measures to make the best possible use of all available exits in all escape conditions considering a pool of fire scenarios given a quantitative fire risk assessment.
Simulations have been carried out in both day and night conditions.
The use of a fire safety management system (FSMS) together with a suitable signalling and detection system made it possible to test the evacuation system from all the building units and fire compartments.
